Common contending | an evening with bishop paul donison

We are pleased to announce that on Monday 27th October the Rt Rev Paul Donison will be in Belfast to speak at a special First Things evening in St Nicholas’ Hall, Cadogan Park. Tea and coffee will be available from 7.00 p.m.beforehand, with the meeting beginning at 7.30 p.m., and again afterwards for those who wish to stay and chat. All are very welcome.

Bishop Paul will give two Talks:

  1. Written That You May Believe – an exposition of John 20, helping us see afresh the purpose of the Gospel and the hope of the risen Christ.

  2. Gafcon as a Fellowship for Orthodox Anglicans – teaching from Jude 1–4, setting out how GAFCON continues to unite and encourage faithful Anglicans across the world today.

The evening Ahead

This evening offers us in Northern Ireland a chance to hear directly from one of the most significant Anglican leaders in the global church. At a time when the Anglican Communion faces both deep challenges and exciting opportunities, GAFCON has become a fellowship where orthodox believers from every continent can stand together in faith, encouraging one another to hold fast to the gospel once for all delivered to the saints. Bishop Paul will help us reflect on what this global movement means for us locally, and how we can play our part in gospel renewal.

Paul Donison is Rector and Dean of Christ Church Plano, Texas. Originally from Canada, he was ordained in 2004 and served in several Canadian parishes before moving to Texas in 2016 with his wife, Monika, and their four daughters. In 2023, he was elected as General Secretary of GAFCON by the Primates, and in 2024 was consecrated as a Bishop. He also serves as Vicar General (Area Bishop) for the Texas Deanery of the Anglican Diocese of the South.

Bishop Paul’s ministry is marked by a distinctive mix of pastoral care, theological depth, and creative communication. Before ordination, he trained and worked as a professional stage actor, and still often memorises and dramatically tells the Scriptures when he preaches. His academic background includes a B.F.A. in Theatre, a Dp.C.S. and M.Div. from Regent College, and doctoral work at Trinity School for Ministry.

This promises to be an encouraging and timely evening around God’s word and in fellowship with one another. Please plan to join us, and do invite others along.

WILL YOU JOIN US?

The meeting will be held in St Nicholas’ Hall, Cadogan Park, Belfast, BT9. Tea and coffee will be served from 7.00 p.m. before the meeting and again afterwards, with the main programme beginning at 7.30 p.m. Everyone is warmly invited to attend.
