West Trust lecture || Christianity in an Age of Islam || The Rt Revd Dr Yassir Eric

Join us for a compelling evening of Christian witness, theological engagement, and courageous conversation as The Right Reverend Dr Yassir Eric, Presiding Bishop of Ekkios (the Anglican movement caring for Muslim-background believers), brings fresh insight on how the Christian faith speaks in our time of religious plurality.

About the speaker

Dr Eric’s life story is one of radical transformation. Born into a Muslim family in Sudan, he was once a fervent student of the Qur’an and radical Islam.  A chance encounter with Christian prayer and compassion changed his trajectory, leading him into faith in Christ.  He later studied theology and missiology across Africa, Europe, and the United States and now serves as Presiding Bishop for the Global Anglican “Muslim Background Believers” movement, ministering across more than 80 countries.  In 2024 he was consecrated as bishop in Kigali, Rwanda, as part of the formation of the Ekkios Diocese.

In his public ministry, Bishop Eric seeks to build bridges of understanding, to offer pastoral care to those who have come from Islam into Christ, and to challenge both church and society on the theological, cultural, and missional implications of interfaith encounter.

What to expect

In “Christianity in an Age of Islam”, Bishop Eric will explore questions such as:

  • How does the historic Christian faith engage respectfully yet faithfully with Islam in the 21st century?

  • What does following Christ look like for those from Muslim backgrounds, and what challenges do they face?

  • In a plural religious age, how can the Church witness in love, conviction, and clarity?

  • What roots of reconciliation and common ground might we discover, without compromising the gospel?

Venue & logistics

St Nicholas’ Belfast. Doors open at 7:00 pm for light refreshments; the lecture will begin at 7:30 pm and will include time for Q&A. Entry is free, although donations will be welcomed to help cover venue costs.

We warmly invite you to come, bring friends, and enter into a serious but hopeful conversation about faith, witness, and unity in an age of religious complexity.
